Twenty-three pitchers in baseball’s 135-year history have thrown perfect games, retiring 27 batters without letting even one reach base. Six perfect games have been thrown since 2009, three this season alone: Seattle Mariners’ Felix Hernandez (Aug. 15), San Francisco Giants’ Matt Cain (June 13) and Chicago White Sox’s Philip Humber (April 21). Until now, there were never more than two perfect games thrown in a single season. No pitcher has ever thrown more than one.
