Report: DNC to offer Sanders olive branch at convention

Democratic National Committee officials are preparing to offer Sen. Bernie Sanders and his supporters a chance to shape the party’s platform at the convention in July in exchange for their cooperation with Hillary Clinton’s campaign.

DNC leadership will soon offer Sanders a chance to fill a handful of seats on the convention committee that will hammer out the Democratic Party’s platform this summer, according to a report Friday in the Washington Post.

Democrats have ramped up criticism of Sanders this week as Clinton grows closer to clinching the nomination. Sanders’ continued presence in the race has complicated Clinton’s attempts to pivot to her likely general election opponent, Donald Trump, who has all but locked down his own party’s nomination.

The DNC’s olive branch comes days after Sanders supporters caused chaos at the Nevada state convention. The Vermont senator continues to argue that his party’s primary system is rigged in favor of establishment favorites like Clinton, a narrative that has been bolstered each time Sanders suffers a setback.

Sanders will likely push the Democratic Party to adopt into its platform a $15 minimum wage policy and a more critical stance on Israel.
