Salena Zito: Bridging the partisan gap

In partnership with Sirius XM Radio, the Washington Examiner brings you Mainstreet Meets the Beltway with Salena Zito. This week, Zito is joined on phone by Nick Troiano, the executive director of Unite America.

A new start up dedicated to bridge the partisan gap in politics, Unite America has endorsed 24 independent candidates in 2018. As Troiano puts it, Unite America’s main goal is to elect common sense, independent candidates to office. He and Zito discuss the history behind party politics, going back to America’s roots with its first president, George Washington. A man with no allegiance to a party was elected to two terms, could that ever happen again?

As always with Mainstreet Meets the Beltway, there is concise, intelligent dialog about current political issues discussed in an easy to digest and casual manner. A move from identity politics would be a big shift following how partisan the 2016 election was, but Zito is able to make the topic easily understandable without dumbing it down.
