A man who was stormed by a crowd of protesters after he flashed a bow and arrow in Salt Lake City on Saturday was charged with aggravated assault.
Brandon McCormick was seen in a video circulating social media shouting “all lives matter” during a protest seeking justice for George Floyd, a black man in Minneapolis who died in police custody last week. Witnesses said he tried to shoot an arrow before protesters rushed him.
Police showed up and pulled him out of the crowd. After they left, protesters broke into McCormick’s car, flipped it, and set it on fire.
He later told FOX 13 that he had shown up to assist officers. Thousands of people gathered in downtown Salt Lake City, which by the afternoon had violent offshoots.
In addition to aggravated assault, the Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office said McCormick was charged with threatening or using a dangerous weapon during a fight. He also faces two counts of possessing a dangerous weapon as a restricted person, according to KUTV.
