Fairfax County officer charged in crash

Fairfax County Police Officer Amanda Perry was charged with reckless driving Friday in connection with a fatal crash that claimed the life of a 33-year-old teacher’s assistant in February.

Perry, 22, remains on restricted duty pending an internal review of the collision, according to a Fairfax County police news release. She was charged following a criminal review of the case by the county’s commonwealth’s attorney.

The officer was responding to a call in her cruiser when she struck a vehicle driven by Ashley McIntosh, of Alexandria, as McIntosh pulled onto Route 1 from Boswell Drive.

Fairfax County Police Chief David Rohrer has promised a “comprehensive, balanced and fair investigation of the crash.”

The county’s police union said it was “disappointed” in the decision to charge Perry.

“Based on our knowledge of the case, we believe our member did not operate her vehicle in a reckless manner,” said Marshall Thielen, the union’s president.
