President Trump mourned the death of a U.S. Secret Service agent who died earlier this week.
Special Agent Nole E. Remagen suffered a stroke on Monday in Scotland during Trump’s overseas trip, and died there Tuesday. He was surrounded by family and colleagues. His body was returned to the U.S. on Wednesday afternoon.
The president and first lady Melania Trump went to Joint Base Andrews to pay their respects to Remagen’s family, the White House said Wednesday.
“Our hearts are filled with sadness over the loss of a beloved and devoted Special Agent, husband, and father. Our prayers are with Special Agent Remagen’s loved ones, including his wife and two young children. We grieve with them and with his Secret Service colleagues, who have lost a friend and a brother,” Trump said in a statement.
Remagen was a 19-year veteran of the Secret Service. He is survived by his wife and two young children.
“Melania and I are deeply grateful for his lifetime of devotion,” Trump’s statement read.
The Secret Service asked for thoughts and prayers for Remagen’s family, friends, and colleagues.

Trump spent the weekend in Scotland at his golf resort before traveling Sunday evening to Helsinki for a summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday.
