Former White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders predicted the global outbreak of the COVID-19 virus could topple the regime of Venezuelan dictator Nicolas Maduro and would allow the United States to “help the country rebuild after years of turmoil and failed socialist policies.”
“In a failed socialist country like Venezuela, hospitals cannot come close to meeting the needs of patients suffering through a pandemic,” Sanders wrote in an opinion piece for Fox News. “The combination of COVID-19, a deteriorating health care system, and a mismanaged government and economy at the hands of Nicolas Maduro’s brutal regime will likely exacerbate one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises.”
The former top aide to President Trump rattled off several human rights abuses and acts of media censorship committed by Maduro and other leaders in the socialist country.
“Many of the country’s educated professionals, including doctors, have fled the country to seek a better life elsewhere,” Sanders stated. Such a “brain and skills drain” is dangerous, she argued.
“Maduro’s dictatorship — like Iran’s — will likely try to cover up its failures and the scale of human suffering in Venezuela in the coming months,” Sanders wrote.
Now a regularly-appearing pundit on the network, Sanders praised Trump for taking a hard line against Maduro and his policies.
“The Trump administration just announced drug-trafficking charges against Maduro himself, a strong move to further pressure the dictator out,” she said. “When the Maduro government falls, Venezuelans will look to rebuild their country. Our presence there ensures that we will be poised to help the country rebuild after years of turmoil and failed socialist policies.”
