President Trump said he plans to award Rush Limbaugh the Medal of Freedom during a private lunch with network anchors.
Trump told the anchors on Tuesday he would honor the conservative radio host in the coming months with the Medal of Freedom, according to CNN.
The Medal of Freedom is given to “individuals who have made especially meritorious contributions to the security or national interests of the United States, to world peace, or to cultural or other significant public or private endeavors,” according to the White House.
Limbaugh, 69, revealed Monday he had advanced lung cancer and would likely be absent from his show while he undergoes treatment.
“Ladies and gentleman, this day has been one of the most difficult days in recent memory for me because I’ve known this moment was coming in the program today,” Limbaugh said. “I’m sure you all know by now, I really don’t like talking about myself, and I don’t like making things about me other than in the usual satirical, joking way.”
Trump, 73, wished Limbaugh a “speedy recovery” and invited him to attend the State of the Union address.
