Alexandria police will spend Saturday night and most of Sunday morning roaming the city to catch drunk drivers.
Starting at 8:30 p.m. Saturday, officers will be stopping motorists throughout the city to check if they’re able to drive or under the influence of drugs or alcohol. They’ll continue their enforcement effortsuntil 6:30 a.m. Sunday.
In a statement, Police Chief Earl Clark issued this friendly reminder: The maximum penalty for a first conviction of driving under the influence is 12 months in jail, a $2,500 fine and a 12-month suspension of driving privileges. There are also additional mandatory jail sentences to go along with DWI violations, depending on a driver’s blood alcohol content.
