ABILENE, Texas — More than 150 federal, state, and local law enforcement vehicles escorted the hearse that carried late Border Patrol Agent Donna Doss to a memorial service here, where roughly 500 people, mostly law enforcement officers, honored her life Friday afternoon.
Blue and red lights flashed up and down South 11th Street as vehicles made their way to the service. The hearse was at the back of the motorcade procession, and law enforcement personnel blocked intersections and saluted as it passed.

Dozens of officials from U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Border Patrol, sheriff’s departments, local police departments, and other agencies slowly passed by the parked vehicles. The procession drove slowly through a 30-minute-long ride from the funeral home to Taylor County Expo Center, where Doss’ service was held.
The long length of the motorcade was symbolic of the overflow of support for the Border Patrol agent who had 16 years on the job and was killed last Saturday while working at a traffic stop.
Residents lined the street by the expo center, including one woman who held a neon green sign that she had written “GOD BLESS THANK YOU.”

Abilene is home to a Border Patrol station that is part of the patrol’s Del Rio Sector in Texas. The Abilene Station is located 250 miles north of the U.S.-Mexico border crossing in Del Rio. The station’s agents focus on vehicle checks as Interstate 20 runs through the city.
