United by Blue, an apparel company and whose profits go towards hosting cleanups, will hold a volunteer clean-up of the Anacostia River this Saturday.
The National Oceanic and Atmosphere Administration estimated that nearly 20,000 tons of trash and debris enter the river each year.
UBB volunteers will meet in the section F parking lot of Anacostia Park at 10 a.m. to help pick up plastic bottles, tires and household waste that litters the Anacostia’s banks. Wear appropriate shoes, but UBB will provide gloves, water and snacks, as well as games and contests throughout the day. The event runs until 2 p.m.
