Watch: Democratic National Convention drops a ‘Harry Potter’ reference

A Democratic National Convention speaker paraphrased a magical motto from “Harry Potter” to recognize complaints by Bernie Sanders supporters about the Democrats’ nominating process and the superdelegate system.

Maine state Rep. Diane Russell, who introduced an amendment for superdelegate reforms, declared from the podium: “Dumbledore from ‘Harry Potter’ once said, ‘It takes great courage to stand up to your enemies. It takes even greater courage to stand up to your friends.'”

Russell reported the Democratic Party’s formation of a committee to determine the best means to “open up our nominating procedures and build a fairer process going forward.”

“We did not win this by selling out,” she said. “We won this by standing up.”
