Classified ’28 pages’ from 9/11 report could be released Friday

The classified section of the congressional report on the 9/11 attacks that are alleged to tie Saudi Arabia’s government to the 9/11 hijackers could be released as early as Friday.

Sources told CNN the document — known as the “28 pages” — still has to go through some procedural steps before it will be released.

Intelligence agencies, law enforcement and the State Department have all reviewed and approved the release of the document with “minimal redactions,” sources told CNN.

“The House Intelligence Committee will get the redacted report today or tomorrow,” said Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., a member of the House Intelligence Committee. “The Senate and House Intel committees should then give the formal go ahead to release the report since they originally produced it.”

Victims’ families and lawmakers have been pushing to declassify the pages. President Obama said in April his administration would do so, and Director of National Intelligence James Clapper said mid-June was a more realistic target date for their release.

Fifteen of the 19 hijackers in the 9/11 attacks were citizens of Saudi Arabia.
