Government Rules Noam Chomsky Anti-American

The Democratic party is ruling all kinds of things anti-American these days — protesting unpopular legislation, mocking the president, rooting against the Olympic bid of a corrupt city — so it was only a matter of time before they stumbled upon something that was actually anti-American and wasn’t also the work product of an administration official. The Miami Herald reports:

Professor Noam Chomsky may be among America’s most enduring anti-war activists. But the leftist intellectual’s anthology of post 9/11 commentary is taboo at Guantánamo’s prison camp library, which offers books and videos on Harry Potter, World Cup soccer and Islam…. A rejection slip accompanying the Chomsky book did not explain the reason but listed categories of restricted literature to include those espousing “Anti-American, Anti-Semitic, Anti-Western” ideology, literature on “military topics,” and works that portray “excessive graphic violence” and “sexual dysfunctions.”

Since it wasn’t an auto-biography, we can safely cross sexual dysfunctions off the list. Excessive graphic violence probably wasn’t on the table either — the book contains a lot of writing on Iraq, but no reporting. It could be that the censors decided the over the top Israel bashing made qualified the book for an anti-Semitic rating, but the simplest explanation is almost always correct: the Obama administration has deemed Noam Chomsky’s columns to be anti-American. Even a broken clock is right twice a day.
