Construction will begin on or about April 2 to widen Guilford Road and replace the bridge between Howard and Anne Arundel counties.
Guilford Road from Dorsey Run Road in Howard to Brick Bridge Road in Anne Arundel will be widened to four lanes, with an additional left-turn lane in the center.
The bridge that carries the road over the CSX tracks also will be replaced, Howard officials said.
The work is expected to take a year and a half to complete, officials said.
The construction is expected to accommodate increased traffic, said Howard Department of Public Works Director Jim Irvin.
Traffic will continue on Guilford Road, but some lanes will be closed.
The intersection at Dorsey Run Road will be detoured later in the project.
