Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., on Friday said he is confident in the Senate’s ability to investigate Russia’s hacking of U.S. organizations during the election.
“I am now very confident Senate Intel Comm I serve on will conduct thorough bipartisan investigation of #Putin interference and influence,” Rubio tweeted Friday evening.

Rubio has been one of Trump’s Republican critics over how the now-president has continued to casually discuss Russia’s interference in the U.S. presidential election last year. Trump has repeatedly said he hopes to “get along” with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Rubio criticized the White House’s rescinding some sanctions that former President Barack Obama had imposed on Moscow for its hacking the Democratic National Committee.
“Only reason we should ever lift sanctions on #Putin is if he meets conditions of sanctions & ends violations of #ukraine sovereignty. MR,” Rubio tweeted Feb. 5.
In January, Senate Intelligence Chairman Richard Burr announced the committee would conduct an independent probe of the intelligence community’s report that stated Russia tried to help Trump win. Burr said, “We owe it to our colleagues and the American people to do an independent review of the report and its conclusions.”
That a Republican-led Senate said it would look into a matter connected to the GOP president caused concern among some Democratic lawmakers.
Rubio did not explain why he felt reassured about the committee’s investigation into Russia’s action.
