Republican vice presidential nominee Mike Pence said Friday he has faith that disaffected Republicans will support Donald Trump in next month’s election.
With 10 days remaining until Election Day, Pence told MSNBC that Republican voters tell him they did not want to vote for Trump, but they will nonetheless “come home” and do so.
“Everywhere I go, I’m hearing again and again from people that are saying, ‘He wasn’t my first choice, but I’m there,'” Pence told MSNBC. “And I think it’s the reason why you see this race is wheel-to-wheel. It’s going to be a sprint to the finish.”
Pence indicated that he found any suggestion Hillary Clinton had the 2016 presidential election in the bag to be ridiculous. He also said it would be “offensive” if the Trump campaign was engaging in voter suppression efforts, as has been reported, but he said he had not read the report, and said he hasn’t heard anyone in the campaign talk about such an effort.
The governor will campaign in North Carolina and Pennsylvania for Trump on Friday.
