Minor earthquake hits D.C. area

A 3.6-magnitude earthquake hit the Washington area early Friday morning.

The quake hit at 5:04 a.m. and was centered in Rockville.

No major damage was reported.

A U.S. Geological Survey geophysicist told the Associated Press that it was strongest quake to hit within 30 miles of D.C. since the organization began keeping records.

Aftershocks could occur in the next few days, but none have been reported so far.
