WATCH: Weather reporter rescues woman from submerged car live

A Fox Weather reporter covering the flooding in Dallas, Texas, rescued a woman from a submerging vehicle on Monday morning.

The woman, identified by Fox Weather as Stephanie, said she was driving to pick up her daughter, unaware of how deep the water was given the early morning darkness.

Reporter Robert Ray, who was reporting on the submerging vehicles, saw Stephanie’s car going under. He could then be seen rushing through the water to grab her vehicle.

“When we cover this stuff, we don’t find ourselves immersed in the situation, but here’s the thing: We have to, sometimes,” he said after the rescue.

He said he was glad Stephanie was OK and is happy that she can continue to be a mother to her daughter.

“Lots of people going through tough situations in Dallas today,” he said.

Dallas is one of the many areas in Texas undergoing severe flooding. Grant Johnston, an NBC meteorologist, tweeted at about 6 a.m. that Dallas saw approximately 8 inches of rain overnight.

Shannon Murray, a Fox 4 Dallas reporter who witnessed Ray save Stephanie, described the moment as “terrifying.”

Murray said she and her crew were on one side of a bridge in downtown Dallas and just happened to move to the opposite side to gather footage of sinking vehicles. She said when they arrived, they began to see Stephanie’s car slowly submerging underwater.

“That’s when we saw Robert rushing in to go to her rescue, and pulling her vehicle, then pulling her through the window, even at one point then going back to get her bag,” Murray said.

Stephanie told Fox News that she thought she could get through the water but eventually realized she was going the wrong way and was starting to sink.

“Right then, I was just panicking ’cause I just wanted to get out of my car, and get out of the water. I wanted to get my car out of the water, but it’s clearly gone,” she said.
