A 21-year-old South Baltimore woman was charged Friday with attempted murder during a weekend brawl in Federal Hill in which three people were stabbed.
Ashley Zion, of the 1400 block of Cypress Street, was arrested late Thursday after police traced a phone call from a BlackBerry stolen during the melee.
A female victim tried to call her stolen phone and a male answered, saying, “Yes, I have your phone,” and a female stated, “We have your phone and you can?t have it back,” charging documents state.
Police traced calls made from the stolen phone to Zion?s phone and interviewed her Thursday at her Curtis Bay home.
Zion admitted to striking two people and said one of her friends took the BlackBerry, police said. Zion was identified by a victim during a photo array, charging documents state.
The incident began when three people tried to stop a car from fleeing the scene of a collision at Light and Cross streets around 2 a.m. Sunday.
As a sedan involved in the crash began to head down West Street, two females and one male got out and began assaulting some of the bystanders who had been shouting at the driver, police said. Three people suffered stab wounds.
The attack gained attention Tuesday when a woman ? who said she also was assaulted ? sent out a widely circulated e-mail describing what occurred in an attempt to locate witnesses.
The woman, who has asked not to be identified, said a female passenger assaulted her, grabbing her hair, pulling her to the ground and striking her.
“I have a bloody ear, elbows, knees and multiple bruises through out my body,” she wrote. “I had actual footprints on my back from where they were kicking me. Everything hurts, a lot.”
Police said they are continuing to search for the other suspects.
Court records show Zion has been charged three times previously with second-degree assault, but never convicted.
