Trump, Merkel discuss ‘urgent security challenge’ in North Korea

President Trump discussed the “urgent security challenge posed by North Korea” on Monday in a phone call with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, the White House said.

Trump and Merkel also addressed the conflicts in Syria, where the president has focused much of his recent attention, and Yemen, where terrorist groups are gaining increased influence.

“The president also reaffirmed our support for German- and French-led efforts to negotiate a peaceful settlement to the conflict in Ukraine on the basis of the Minsk agreements,” the White House said in its statement.

Merkel and Trump met at the White House last month and have maintained an open dialogue since.

Trump has said the two leaders get along well.
