Lost its magic: Disney World fans say they’re forgoing trips in new poll

Disney enthusiasts are skipping trips to visit Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida, because the theme park has lost its magic.

Dissatisfaction concerning Walt Disney World centered primarily on rising prices and cash grabs, according to a Time2Play poll.

Out of nearly 2,000 “self-described Disney World enthusiasts,” 92.6% said a vacation to the resort was out of reach for average families.

Nearly 70% said they believed the price increases made the theme park feel like it had lost its magic.

“I understand inflation and all of those things. I understand cost increases,” Kentucky father Matt Day reportedly said earlier this year. “I always had the impression that Disney was a family vacation destination, and that impression is why I was surprised to see how expensive it truly was — and how out of reach it is for most American families.”

Additionally, nearly 50% of those polled by Time2Play said they have postponed a Walt Disney World trip in recent years because of price increases.

As of Monday morning, a standard one-park Disney World ticket through October costs about an average of $137 per day, with prices reaching as high as $154, according to the theme park’s website.

Travel company Koala has projected that Disney World tickets could cost about $253 in nine years based on previous price increases of about 7.4% each year.

In 1971, when the resort first opened, a ticket cost $3.50. Given inflation, GoBankingRates calculated the price would have been a little more than $20 today.
