Portland shop hit by burglary days before grand opening

A clothing store in Portland, Oregon, was hit with a burglary just days before the business was set to have its grand opening, according to local authorities.

Portland police said someone broke into Drip on Tuesday night, reported KPTV.

According to co-owner Reginald Parham, the front windows were smashed and $7,000 worth of electronics and merchandise were stolen from the shop.

“It definitely hurts,” Parham told the news outlet. “The grand opening, you know, you gotta think, we’ve been waiting to start this so we can make some money.”

Drip’s cameras are not functioning until later in the week, Parham said. Still, Parham said he is hopeful the police will identify a suspect, according to KGW 8.

The store’s grand opening was over three years in the making, according to Parham, who said he and his partners had been running an apparel business at pop-up events for the past three and a half years before they raised enough money to open a permanent location. The new store will feature two clothing lines: Chocolate Dope Apparel and AC Cream.

Another co-owner of the shop, Cam Carreon, said the business set up a GoFundMe fundraiser to help limit the cost of the damage and has pushed the grand opening until next month.

“We’re gonna come back stronger than ever. We’re gonna open up Dec. 4 and we’d like people to come out and support,” Carreon said. “It’s the best thing you can do — support small businesses like our own.”
