Beto O’Rourke returns to campaign trail after El Paso shooting

Beto O’Rourke is resuming his presidential campaign after a brief hiatus following a mass shooting in his hometown that left 22 victims dead.

O’Rourke is set to return to the campaign trail Thursday and will deliver a “major address” that “will outline the path forward for his presidential campaign and for the future of the country,” his campaign said Wednesday.

He remained in El Paso for the last week while other 2020 presidential candidates descended on the Iowa State Fair to make their case to voters ahead of the caucuses early next year.

“No part of me right now is thinking about politics, is thinking about any campaign or election. All of me is with and thinking about this community,” O’Rourke told reporters last week. “[I’m] going to be here to be with my hometown and to do anything I can to be helpful. That’s where we’re going to keep the focus.”
