Kamala Harris’s husband, Doug Emhoff, tests positive for COVID-19

Vice President Kamala Harris’s husband, Doug Emhoff, has tested positive for COVID-19 but is “feeling well,” according to President Joe Biden.

The second gentleman’s positive result scrambled the White House’s celebration of Women’s History Month on Tuesday night, which Harris was scheduled to attend but skipped due to what aides described as “an abundance of caution.”

Harris had been with Biden earlier Tuesday and was beside him and other prominent lawmakers, including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, when the president signed the $1.5 trillion government funding bill into law.

“He’s feeling very well, I’m told,” Biden said at the White House women’s event. The president asked the crowd to send Harris “our love.”

Biden had momentarily confused the audience, one of the largest White House gatherings of his administration, by announcing that “the first lady’s husband” had COVID-19.

Harris’s deputy press secretary, Sabrina Singh, told reporters the vice president had tested negative Tuesday “and will continue to test.”

Emhoff’s positive test comes after several House Democrats contracted COVID-19 at their annual conference in Philadelphia last week. Former President Barack Obama also announced his positive result last weekend.
