Hot day but no record

The D.C. region barely missed out on sweating its way into the record book Monday, nearly passing a three-decade-old mark for the most 90-degree days in a year.Likely the last reminder of summer heat, temperatures reached 87 degrees at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. With another 90-degree measurement, 2010 would have surpassed the previous record of 67 such days, set in 1980.

However, meteorologists said Monday was likely the last chance to break the record.

The last time it hit 90 degrees at Reagan National this late in the year was 1919. Temperatures are expected to cool later in the week. – Brian Hughes
