Jeffrey Epstein likely died by suicide without a single camera catching the event.
Guards found Epstein, a wealthy financier and convicted pedophile, dead in his cell at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in lower Manhattan on Saturday morning. Epstein was being held on charges of sex trafficking.
No cameras caught his apparent suicide because, though cameras monitor the facility, they only scan common areas and outside the prison, not inside the cells, sources familiar with the facility told the New York Post.
Authorities have released Epstein’s body to New York City’s chief medical examiner for an autopsy. Results are expected to be released in a matter of days.
Epstein’s death comes two weeks after he was taken off suicide watch. He was placed under constant surveillance after guards found him lying in his cell nearly unconscious with marks around his neck last month.
After authorities took Epstein off suicide watch, guards were supposed to still check in on him every half hour. That practice reportedly was not done the night of his death.
