ICE director blasts AOC for concentration camp comments

Mark Morgan, the acting director for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, criticized Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for comparing immigration detention facilities to Holocaust concentration camps.

“It’s completely inappropriate, it’s reckless, it’s irresponsible, it’s misinformed, and it’s flat-out wrong,” Morgan told Hill.TV’s Saagar Enjeti.

“There is so much oversight at these facilities. We have [Inspector General] report after IG report. We have nongovernment organization, NGOs, that are constantly providing double-check on that,” he continued, saying he encourages the oversight of their facilities.

The New York Democrat made her comments on Monday during an Instagram live video.

“The United States is running concentration camps on our southern border, and that is exactly what they are. They are concentration camps,” Ocasio-Cortez said.

“I want to talk to the people that are concerned enough with humanity that ‘Never Again’ means something,” she continued. “The fact that concentration camps are now an institutionalized practice in the home of the free is extraordinarily disturbing and we need to do something about it.”

Her comments have been strongly rebuked by Republican members of Congress.
