Rubio announces book release, stoking 2024 rumors

A planned book release is stoking rumors that Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) may run for president in 2024.

His book, titled Decades of Decadence, will be released through Harper Collins on June 13 of next year, according to the website. Few details have been provided aside from the title and 272-page count. Book deals are often a first move into a presidential political campaign — former Vice President Mike Pence, widely considered to be a 2024 hopeful, has used his book tour to bring publicity to his political plans.

RUBIO SAYS HE WON’T VOTE FOR DEAL TO STOP RAIL STRIKE WITHOUT WORKER SUPPORT

Rubio used the release of his last book, American Dreams, in 2015 to launch his political campaign, which he launched just months later.

Rubio, who came in third place in the 2016 Republican presidential primary, has not yet commented on a potential 2024 run. Two GOP operatives familiar with the matter told the Hill that Rubio isn’t overtly eager to launch a 2024 campaign but will take the opportunity if it presents itself. He has previously hinted as much, speaking with author and Washington Examiner senior political correspondent David Drucker for his 2021 book, In Trump’s Shadow.

“I’m not a surfer, but I equate it a little bit to surfing: You can have the best surfboard in the world; you could be the best surfer in the world. If there’s not waves, or if you don’t time the waves, you’re not going to surf. You don’t control that part of it,” he said, talking about running for president.

Another GOP operative told the outlet that he is skeptical Rubio would run, as his chances are bleak.

“His problem is he doesn’t have a base. That was the problem in ’16, but it’s worse now. The base he had then was young suburban voters,” he said, adding that that base has since gone elsewhere.

“A lot of his supporters from 2016 are with other people now, and he hasn’t done anything over the last four years to build the type of organization you’d need to show you’re running for president,” he added.

Rubio won his recent reelection to the Florida Senate readily, a rare “red wave” victory in a midterm election cycle marked by disappointment for Republicans.
