PRS Guitars keeps turning raw wood into wailing axes.
The Maryland company crafts guitars for legendary musician Carlos Santana; local favorite Jimmie?s Chicken Shack; and bands that dominate the airwaves such as Matchbox Twenty, Barenaked Ladies, Creed and Everclear.
Designers, carvers, sanders, sprayers and buffers build guitars out of a state-of-the-art factory in Stevensville, a short cruise from Annapolis, where Paul Reed Smith founded the company decades ago.
From bluegrass musicians to metal heads, headliners, openers and collectors around the country customize “one off” guitars with PRS. Clients select the shape of the instrument, the back and top wood, the neck, the fretboard, inlay material and color. PRS designed the Dave Navarro Signature Model based on the star?s Custom 24 with mother-of-pearl inlays and gold hardware.
PRS guitars have appeared onstage at annual festivals, clinics and concerts including the James Brown Memorial concert in January 2007.
