Derek Chauvin’s wife says she is devastated by Floyd’s death and seeking a divorce

The wife of the ex-police officer charged with third-degree murder for the death of Minneapolis man George Floyd says she is seeking a divorce, saddened by the events of the week.

Kellie Chauvin said in a statement that she sends her condolences to the family of Floyd, who died in police custody on Monday. Her husband, Derek Chauvin, restrained Floyd by placing his knee on his neck until he lost consciousness. In a video that went viral this week, Floyd can be heard expressing he can’t breathe.

Kellie Chauvin said she is “devastated” by what happened and is filing for divorce from Derek Chauvin.

She has no children from her marriage to Derek Chauvin but asks the public to respect the privacy of her and her family during this high-profile time.
