Donald Trump, who hopes to put California in play in November, currently trails his Democratic presidential opponent by 30 percentage points in the Golden State, a new poll shows.
The latest Field Poll shows Hillary Clinton leading the presumptive Republican presidential nominee 58 to 28 percent among California voters, 14 percent of whom remain undecided. Clinton loses 8 percentage points to Libertarian Party nominee Gary Johnson when he is added to the mix, while Trump loses 2.

Trump previously vowed to “make a real run” for California, a traditionally blue state last won by a Republican presidential candidate in 1988, in addition to other Democratic states like New Jersey and New York.
In order to do so, the latest poll suggests Trump would need to improve his favorability ratings among voters of all ages and ethnicities. Clinton leads Trump 75 to 12 percent among Latino voters in California and 87 to 3 percent among African Americans.
“I think Trump supporters in California appear to be pretty hard-core supporters,” Mark DiCamillo, director of the Field Poll told the Sacramento Bee. “But they’re down to a relatively small number, and that’s really his problem.”
Clinton, who along with Trump has been plagued by low favorability ratings nationally, appears to have improved her image in the Golden State. Fifty-three percent of voters view the former secretary of state favorably, compared to 24 percent who said they have a positive view of Trump.
The poll of 956 likely general election voters was conducted June 8-July 2. Results contain a margin of error plus or minus 3.2 percentage points.
