D.C. Lotto proposes “Smokin’ Hot Dice” as online game

The first “online” game proposed by D.C. Lottery isn’t all that much different from an instant-win scratch off.

The D.C. Council approved online lottery games in December and Congress didn’t stop the plan that could raise $13 million in fiscal year 2014. The rules for the first game, “Smokin’ Hot Dice,” were proposed in the latest publication of the D.C. Register. But they’re not final, and residents have 30 days to weigh in.

To play the game, you’ll have to visit a D.C. Lottery approved agent who has an “online terminal.” The ticket costs $2 and you can win up to $1,000.

Ohio already offers Smokin’ Hot, and the state’s gaming website has a walkthrough that explains it pretty well. But basically, the top of the ticket pictures two dice showing a number. Below that are 12 “rolls” with a dollar amount associated with each. If the total of one of the rolls matches the total showing on the dice at the top, you win the dollar amount shown beneath the roll.

UPDATE:

A D.C. Lottery spokeswoman said the game is not the first Internet game. The game is an “on-line” game, which differs from the proposed Internet games, which will be called “iGames.”
