Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was sent off the field on a stretcher with what appeared to be significant head and neck injuries Thursday, just days after he suffered back and ankle injuries in another game.
Tagovailoa was slammed to the ground while being sacked by Bengals defensive tackle Josh Tupou in the second quarter, video of the collision shows.

When on the ground, Tagovailoa’s fingers locked up, which a medical expert on the Prime Video broadcast said was the way they would as part of a “neurological response to head trauma.”

Tagovailoa stumbled off the field Sunday during a game against the Buffalo Bills but returned in the second half. The NFL confirmed Wednesday it is investigating whether the Dolphins followed the proper concussion protocol.
Teddy Bridgewater replaced Tagovailoa following the latter’s injury Thursday.
