73 percent of Democrats would give up alcohol for life to see Trump impeached

Nearly three-quarters of Democrats would give up alcohol for life if President Trump could be impeached tomorrow, according to a study released Thursday by a drug and alcohol rehabilitation advocacy group Detox.net.

The March survey found 73 percent of Democrats and 17 percent of Republicans would skip drinks to see the end of Trump’s presidency.

Thirty-one percent of Republicans would give up alcohol for the rest of their lives if it meant the “media would stop writing negative things about Trump.” Only 6 percent of Democrats felt the same way.

Americans were more willing to give up beer, wine and spirits for political issues than lifestyle choices or money, the poll concluded.

The average respondent would give up alcohol for the rest of his or her life for $365,458.

The finding comes one day after Rep. Brad Sherman, D-Calif., introduced articles of impeachment against Trump as the administration battles a scandal about Donald Trump Jr. meeting with a Russian attorney in 2016.

The poll was conducted March 14, 2017 among 1,013 U.S. men and women who have had an alcoholic drink in the past year. Fifty-eight percent of respondents were men, 41 percent were women, and 1 percent did not identify gender. On the final question about the financial cost to give up drinking, there was a 5 percentage point margin of error.
