Tax Day inspires marches nationwide calling on Trump to release his returns

This year’s Tax Day inspired more than 150 marches nationwide to call on President Trump to release his tax returns.

Saturday’s march in Washington, D.C., began at noon in front of the U.S. Capitol Building, and a Facebook event showed more than 10,000 attending and another 41,000 interested.

Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif., who went viral Friday night for saying at an event, “We’ve got to stop Donald Trump’s ass,” was also at Saturday’s event.

“We need to know what it looks like. Who he owes. What kind of debt he has and again, what kind of possible conflicts of interest,” Waters said during an MSNBC interview on Saturday.

“My message for the president is short enough to tweet. Today across America we are taking the gloves off,” said Sen. Ron Wyden D-Ore., a keynote speaker on Saturday. “It’s time to knock off the tax rip offs. No more Cayman Island accounts for the insiders. No more tax breaks for shipping jobs overseas. No more special breaks for Wall Street.”

Wyden, who is the top Democrat on the Senate Finance Committee, has introduced legislation to require Trump, future presidents and presidential nominees to disclose their tax returns. He has also sent letters asking Finance Committee Chairman Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, to request Trump’s returns from the Treasury Department.

Rallies were expected to take place in New York, Boston, Sacramento, and San Francisco. Protesters in West Palm Beach, Fla., will hold the “March a Lago” near the resort where Trump is spending his Easter weekend.

“We’re marching on Washington, D.C., and around the country to ask Donald Trump: WHAT ARE YOU HIDING?” the organizers of the marches wrote on their website. “We need a president who works for all Americans, and a tax system that does, too. Release your tax

Trump became the first president in 40 years to refuse to release his tax returns while in office.
