Maryland?s tech exports rise $134 million in 2007

High-tech exports from Maryland totaled $1.5 billion in 2007, an increase of $134 million, or 10 percent, from 2006.

About 40 percent of exports, or $589 million, were communications equipment, while about 25 percent of exports, or $397 million, were industrial electronics, according to AeA, the nation’s largest technology trade association.

“High tech plays a vital role in Maryland’s economy,” Matthew Kazmierczak, AeA’s senior vice president of operations, said in a statement. “Seventeen percent of the state’s exports are high-tech goods.

Maryland ranked 28th in the country in terms of high-tech exports, according to AeA. About 6,700 jobs in Maryland are supported by tech exports.
