Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt reportedly sought help from a former top Virginia state lawmaker for his daughter trying to attend the University of Virginia School of Law.
Pruitt approached William Howell, a Republican who previously served as speaker of the Virginia House of Delegates, not long after he became EPA administrator for assistance for his daughter, McKenna, the New York Times reported.
Howell confirmed to the New York Times that he was contacted by Pruitt and wrote a letter to the dean of the law school on McKenna Pruitt’s behalf.
McKenna Pruitt is currently a student at the University of Virginia School of Law.
The former longtime Virginia lawmaker, though, told the New York Times he didn’t believe his letter helped to solidify her admission.
A spokeswoman for the University of Virginia declined to comment to the New York Times.
A spokesman for Pruitt said the EPA administrator and Howell have had a long relationship and that “letters of recommendation are normal process for an application to law school.”
Pruitt is facing more than a dozen investigations into his actions since assuming his position leading the EPA.
