Dad, son arrested in kidnapping; other son wanted in shooting

A Harford County father and son were arrested this weekend after police said they kidnapped and beat up a man in a dispute over the sale of a truck, while police are looking for a second son ? a suspect in a shooting outside a Waffle House, police said.

“But the incidents are not related,” said Sgt. David Betz, spokesman for the Harford County Sheriff?s Office. “Purely coincidental.”

Johnny Bolden, 48, and his son, Justin Bolden, 25, went to Wardell Brooks? home in the 2100 block of Kalmia Road in Bel Air and threatened to shoot him if he did not get in their car,  Betz said.

Brooks, 52, got in the front seat and Justin Bolden drove while his father held a knife to Brooks? throat, Betz said.

After forcing Brooks out on a dirt road, the father and son punched and kicked him, and tried to cut him with a knife, police said. After the pair drove away, Brooks called 911.

Police arrested the pair at the father?s residence, in the 900 block of Walker Street, Aberdeen. They were being held on $200,000 bond.

Betz said he could not elaborate on the dispute.

Meanwhile, the sheriff?s office has obtained a warrant for the arrest of Reginald Leon Bolden, 24, in connection with a shooting outside a Waffle House in Belcamp, police said.

An orange vehicle approached a 24-year-old Havre de Grace man at about 2:30 a.m. Saturday on Riverside. After a brief conversation, he was shot once in the lower body, police said.

He had surgery at University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center and is expected to survive, Betz said.

The suspect lives in the 2700 block of Forge Hill Road in Bel Air with his brother, Justin Bolden, Betz said. Reginald Bolden faces attempted murder and assault charges as well as handgun violations. Anyone with information is urged to call police at 410-838-6600.
