Church of Scotland ministers can enter gay marriages: Report

The Church of Scotland will reportedly allow its ministers to enter into gay marriages, but the clergy will still not be allowed to perform them.

The church stated that it “maintains its traditional view of marriage between a man and woman.”

The Protestant religious group made the decision during a meeting of its general assembly Saturday in Edinburgh, according to the Associated Press.

The Church of Scotland may not debate whether to conduct gay marriages until next year, after a report is issued at its “Theological Forum” next year.

Scotland’s official church is a Presbyterian denomination that includes about 400,000 members.
