ABC’s The View host Meghan McCain took aim at President Trump’s surrogates saying Rudy Giuliani, Stephen Miller, and Mike Pompeo all did terrible jobs at defending the president.
“If you’re in White House and your surrogates are just bombing left and right and making complete jackasses of themselves, going viral with their explanations, you have to try and retake the narrative,” McCain said Tuesday in a segment talking about Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s defense of President Trump’s phone call with Ukraine. “And up until this point, he [Pompeo] is someone I think is well respected within the administration and someone who is seen with a different kind of lens, and he blew it as well.”
McCain, 34, said the Trump administration’s messaging was out of control and the president needed new messengers who can actually defend him.
“Talk about blowing it in a J.V. level. If you have something to tell me that explains why you don’t think this is unethical or illegal, please get somebody out there with more than three brain cells to explain it to Republicans,” she said. “But Stephen Miller and Rudy Giuliani are making this exponentially worse and now Mike Pompeo just made it exponentially worse.”
The View segment centered on Pompeo evading a question by ABC’s Martha Raddatz about whether reports he was on the phone call between Trump and the Ukrainian president were true.
Miller and Giuliani have also sparred with cable news hosts over the Ukraine phone call at the heart of the Democratic impeachment inquiry. Giuliani has been especially criticized for his recent round of cable appearances which kicked off with a 30-minute shouting match on Cuomo Prime Time two weeks ago. Since then, several critics have suggested the president’s personal attorney has been intoxicated while on cable news.
