Trump praises ‘great move’ by ‘very smart’ Putin

President-elect Trump praised Russian President Vladimir Putin for not expelling any American diplomats in retaliation for President Obama’s expulsion of 35 Russians and new sanctions.

“Great move on delay (by V. Putin) — I always knew he was very smart,” Trump said Friday.

After posting the tweet, Trump “pinned” it to his Twitter page. Pinning a tweet to a Twitter page ensures that tweet will appear above all others when someone looks at it.

Obama announced Thursday that 35 Russian intelligence officers were being kicked out of the United States due to their alleged involvement in the hacking of the Democratic National Committee’s and Hillary Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta’s email.

In response, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov initially moved to expel 35 Americans from Russia, but Putin decided to not take any action. He said he was waiting for better relations to come with Trump once he takes office on Jan. 20.

Within half an hour, the Russian Embassy in the United States gave Trump a nod by retweeted the president-elect’s tweet.

Trump also posted the message on his Instagram and Facebook accounts.
