Ohio Gov. John Kasich thinks the Republicans’ majority in Congress is in jeopardy of disappearing come November.
Kasich, who served in Congress from 1983 to 2001, wrote a fundraising email for the National Republican Congressional Committee warning of an electoral disaster.
“Nancy Pelosi has her sights set on becoming Speaker again,” Kasich wrote. “It seemed nearly impossible just a few months ago, but now our Republican majority in Congress is in danger.”
Kasich’s name also appeared as the signatory of a fundraising pitch for Ohio Sen. Rob Portman on Monday, but the governor has notably avoided any effort to boost presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump. Kasich has repeatedly said he’s not ready to endorse Trump since dropping out of the 2016 race last month, and even compared his anguish to someone undergoing a divorce.
The fundraising pitch does not explain the reasons as to why Kasich believes the electoral disaster looks more likely now, but he does caution readers that, “If we lose the House, you’ll lose your conservative representation in Washington.”
