The sixth day of actor Johnny Depp’s $50 million defamation suit against ex-wife Amber Heard saw testimony from Depp’s security guard, sound technician, and even the actor himself.
Depp’s testimony took up most of Tuesday as he detailed his upbringing, substance abuse, and his relationship with Heard.
As a child, the actor experienced name-calling and belt “whippings.” Depp made it clear that his father never hit his mother, however. He likewise testified that he had never hit his now ex-wife.

Ultimately, Depp’s father left the allegedly toxic relationship with his mother, which sent his mother into a depression, according to the actor. She would often send Depp to get her “nerve pills,” piquing his curiosity, until he ultimately began taking her pills himself at 11 years old.
“I’d done all the drugs I’m aware of by 15 years old,” Depp said. What followed were brief moments of sobriety, which confirmed earlier testimonies about Depp’s drug use.
At one point, Depp swore he’d done “a line or two of cocaine” with Heard’s sister, Whitney Heard. Whitney lived rent free in a penthouse suite down the hall from her sister, and another witness, Isaac Baruch, at the time.
Depp also responded to the various vindictive text messages regarding Heard that had been read in court prior to his testimony. He claimed he is now “ashamed of the references” he says he made “in the heat of the moment.”
