Whoopi Goldberg says criminalizing homosexuality in US is an idea ‘being thrown around’

The View host Whoopi Goldberg said she believed the United States was on the path to treating gay people like Iran.

“Let us not forget what’s happening to gay people in this country,” Goldberg said.

“But it’s not illegal to be gay here,” host Meghan McCain responded.

“Not yet, not yet,” Goldberg said. “You think this is not something that’s being thrown around? Yeah, it is.”

“I’ve never heard that it is thrown around to be illegal to be gay in the United States,” McCain said.

“Then you should read some more of the stuff that is in the newspapers,” Goldberg responded.

Goldberg’s comments were part of a discussion about whether it was a good thing that Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said that President Trump is “afflicted by mental retardation.”

Goldberg said she was okay with the comments, exclaiming, “We say it. Everybody says it.”

McCain disagreed with Goldberg saying that Iran had no moral authority to speak out against Trump.
