Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey to testify to House committee

Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey will testify in front of the House Energy and Commerce Committee on Sept. 5 as Republicans claim they are being discriminated against by the social media giant.

Chairman Greg Walden, R-Ore., announced Friday the committee intends to ask Dorsey about the social media platform’s algorithms and content monitoring.

“Twitter is an incredibly powerful platform that can change the national conversation in the time it takes a tweet to go viral. When decisions about data and content are made using opaque processes, the American people are right to raise concerns,” Walden said in a statement.

Twitter has faced allegations from conservatives, including President Trump, in recent weeks that it has been purposely hiding tweets and accounts of prominent Republicans.

“As we have said before, we do not ‘shadowban,'” a company spokesperson said in a statement last month.

Dorsey had already committed to appearing before the Senate Intelligence Committee the same day to discuss efforts to prevent Russian interference in the November midterm elections.

Representatives from Facebook and Google will also testify at the Senate hearing.
