White House press secretary Sean Spicer is not the only one who has made the claim that Hitler did not use chemical weapons. MSNBC host Chris Matthews made similar claims in 2013.
As the Obama administration was weighing military action in Syria in August of 2013, Matthews appeared on “Morning Joe” to discuss President Obama’s infamous “red line” statement in the wake of chemical weapons being used by the Assad regime against his own people.
During that appearance, Matthews made the same claim Spicer made, which the White House spokesman has since apologized for amid calls from Democratic and some Republican lawmakers for him to be fired.
“We didn’t use them in World War II, Hitler didn’t use them, we don’t use chemical weapons,” Matthews said.
