Former TV anchor Mark Alford emerged as the victor from a crowded Republican primary field in Missouri’s 4th Congressional District in a bid to replace Rep. Vicky Hartzler (R-MO).

Alford won the nod against six other hopefuls. He will most likely sail to victory in November due to the deep-red makeup of the rural district. Hartzler, who has served the district since 2011, did not run for reelection due to her bid for Missouri’s Senate seat.

Alford said he is running for Congress because “we stand at a critical juncture of the history of the United States of America, a distinct division of paths, and steep precipice of danger. The choices and decisions we soon make as a nation will determine which path we go down and whether we fall to our collective destruction or maintain the integrity and strength of our Union.”

Alford’s top opponents in the open field included Taylor Burks, a Navy combat veteran and former county clerk for Boone County, and Kalena Bruce, a cattle farmer and certified public accountant who was endorsed by Republican Gov. Mike Parson.
