Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers, a Democrat, believes the 2020 Democratic National Convention will be held in Milwaukee.
Acknowledging there is “fierce” competition, Evers said Wednesday he was “confident” that Milwaukee would be chosen, given the location and that it’s “advantageous to the Democratic Party.”
“We’ve been working diligently to provide the information they need in order to make the decision so they choose Milwaukee,” Evers told reporters.
Other cities in contention include Houston and Miami, and Democratic National Committee Chairman Tom Perez is anticipated to make a decision for the convention’s location by the end of February.

Milwaukee could be a particularly significant for Democrats as they look to turn their fortunes in Wisconsin after Hillary Clinton lost the state to President Trump by a fraction of a point in 2016. Clinton declined to campaign in Wisconsin during the general election while Trump did on multiple occasions.
The Republican National Committee announced in July that the party’s 2020 convention will be held in Charlotte, N.C. The 2016 Republican convention was hosted in Cleveland, while Democrats gathered in Philadelphia that year for their convention.
