New York Rep. Peter King was furious Wednesday night after Texas Sen. Ted Cruz did not endorse Republican nominee Donald Trump.
“To me, Ted Cruz showed America what he really is. He’s a fraud. He’s a liar. He’s self-centered. He disqualified himself from ever being considered for president of the United States,” King told NBC News on the floor immediately after Cruz left the stage.
“He took a pledge to support the nominee. Today the Ted Cruz that I’ve known — he cannot be trusted and he’s not a true Republican. He’s not a true conservative. I never saw as much outrage on the floor as I did tonight,” King added.
The congressman said Cruz’s supporters should desert the hypocritical messenger and back a different constitutional conservative in a future election instead of the Tea Party Texan.
“He’s more of a disgrace now more than ever,” King said.
As far as going forward without Cruz’s endorsement, King said Trump still has a path to victory.
“We can live without Ted Cruz, and I think it’s good that Americans saw what Ted is all about,” King finished.
